About

I'm just a girl standing in front of an oven/stove asking it to cook evenly.

Growing up with the multicultural landscape of being a half-Japanese/Taiwanese kid born in South Africa, food was an essential part of my life and I was exposed to various flavors and cuisines from South Africa, Japan, and Taiwan. I remember spending hours in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother, soaking up their cooking methods and experimenting with new ingredients. My passion for cooking and exploring new recipes began there.

My recipes are not just focused on a list of ingredients and instructions but are geared towards the emotional experience that is eating. Food evokes memories, emotions, and is an experience that should be cherished. Whether it's a recipe for a comforting bowl of soup, a hearty noodle dish or a delicate ceviche, my recipes aim to take you on a journey, evoking certain moods and emotions with every bite.

I also love to experiment with new and exciting ingredients to create fusion recipes that blend different cultural influences. I believe fusion cuisine is the embodiment of cultural exchange and that food truly can bring people of different backgrounds together. Infusing different ingredients creates dishes that are not only delicious but also tell a story.

When I started Carpe Briem, my goal was to create a blog that was more than just a recipe collection, but also created a connection with my readers. I wanted to give you all an emotional experience that will remind you of your roots or inspire you to try new flavours. In essence, I wanted to create a community where everyone could share their own culinary experiences, identities, and memories.

Carpe Briem is a personal journey - a connection to my roots, and a passion for culinary creativity. I love how food brings people together, so whether you're a seasoned chef or just starting, join this community, grab a pot, and let's create delicious and meaningful meals together!
