Story of the Month: Shokupan, Oh-Hot-Damn
This month I embarked on the ever belittling, soul-crushing journey that is the search for the ultimate milk bread recipe.
So - here's some context: historically, I have been a Bread Noob. If the world of bread-baking were represented on some kind of global leadership ranking board (like in video games), guess where I would be?
Probably not last, but probably low enough that you'd have to sort by "Lowest First".
Yeast is a beast. And the irony of all of this is that I'm a total carb slut. There's a reason why the titular subtitle of this entire blog is "I simply cannot live without carbs" - I really can't. I have literal withdrawal if I go a single day without bread. Brangry is a thing, I swear.
Anyway - context given, this is the sole milk bread recipe I've tried where the bread ACTUALLY gets better with each time that I make it. It's fluffy. It's soft. It's more elastic than the results of my skincare routine. It's shiny. It's pretty. It's the popular girl in school that you secretly revered and wanted to be but is super high maintenance.
This recipe…so far…(if you use butter and don't use some vegan alternative shit)…is fail-proof.
I'll share it soon. Ugh. So good.
